Is TheLernen really free?
You can start for free, without an account. The free plan gives you 30 new words and 5 AI explanations a day, and reviewing words you already know is not limited. An optional PRO plan removes these limits, adds unlimited AI voice calls and removes ads.
Why only 1000 words?
According to Zipf's law, the 1000 most frequent words in a language make up about 85% of all daily speech. By mastering them first, you get the highest return on investment for your time.
How does Spaced Repetition work?
Our algorithm (based on SM-2) calculates the optimal time to show you a word right before you forget it. This moves vocabulary into your long-term memory efficiently.
Do I need an account to study?
You can try the app without an account as a "Guest", but your progress will only be saved in your current browser. To sync across devices, you must create an account.
