Dative Prepositions in German
Dativpräpositionen
Prepositions that always require the following noun or pronoun to be in the dative case.
Dative prepositions in German are words that always dictate the dative case for the nouns or pronouns that follow them, regardless of the verb or direction. The most common dative prepositions are: aus (out of), bei (at/with), mit (with), nach (after/to), seit (since), von (from/of), and zu (to). A common mnemonic to remember them is "aus-bei-mit-nach-seit-von-zu". When using these prepositions, you must decline the subsequent article and noun endings accordingly (e.g., changing "der Vater" to "mit dem Vater").
