Reflexive Pronouns in German
Reflexivpronomen
Pronouns used with reflexive verbs, pointing back to the subject (e.g., mich, mir, sich).
German reflexive pronouns (Reflexivpronomen) must match the subject in person and number. They can be in the accusative (mich, dich, sich, uns, euch, sich) or dative (mir, dir, sich, uns, euch, sich). The dative is used if there is already a direct object in the sentence (e.g., "Ich wasche mich" [Acc] vs. "Ich wasche mir die Hände" [Dat, where "die Hände" is the direct object]). For third-person singular and plural, the form "sich" is always used for both cases.
