Te-form Conjugation in Japanese

て形の作り方

The grammatical rules used to conjugate Group 1, 2, and 3 Japanese verbs into the conjunctive te-form.

The Japanese te-form conjugation depends on the verb group. For Group 2 (Ru-verbs), replace the final "-ru" with "-te" (e.g., taberu -> tabete). For Group 3 (Irregular), "suru" becomes "shite" and "kuru" becomes "kite". Group 1 (U-verbs) conjugations depend on the final dictionary syllable: -u, -tsu, -ru become "-tte"; -mu, -bu, -nu become "-nde"; -ku becomes "-ite" (exception: iku -> itte); -gu becomes "-ide"; -su becomes "-shite". The te-form connects sentences and links clauses.
