Numbers and Numerals
Kazakh numerals comprise cardinals (бір, екі), ordinals with -ыншы/-інші (бірінші), and collective numerals with -ау/-еу (біреу, екеу).
In Kazakh, *Numerals (Сан есімдер)* are classified into several distinct morphological subclasses:
1. *Cardinal Numerals (Есептік сан есім): Base numbers indicating quantity: бір (1), екі (2), үш (3), төрт (4), бес (5), алты (6), жеті (7), сегіз (8), тоғыз (9), он (10), жиырма (20), отыз (30), қырық (40), елу (50), алпыс (60), жетпіс (70), сексен (80), тоқсан (90), жүз (100), мың (1,000). 2. Ordinal Numerals (Реттік сан есім): Formed with the suffix -(ы)ншы / -(і)нші: бір-інші (1st), екі-нші (2nd), үш-інші (3rd), бес-інші (5th), он-ыншы (10th). 3. Collective Numerals (Жинақтық сан есім): Specifically denote groups of persons from 1 to 7 using the suffix -(а)у / -(е)у: біреу (one person / someone), екеу (a duo / two together), үшеу (three of them), төртеу (four of them), бесеу (five of them), алтау (six of them), жетеу (seven of them). 4. Fractional Numerals (Бөлшектік): Expressed via the ablative or locative case: екіден бір (one half), үштен екі* (two thirds).
Crucial Syntax Rule: Nouns quantified by numbers never take the plural suffix: бес кітап (5 books, NOT бес кітаптар).
