Present Tense & The 5 Verb Classes (Slovesné třídy)
Czech verbs are classified into 5 conjugation classes based on their 3rd person singular present-tense stem vowel (-e, -ne, -je, -í, -á).
In Czech grammar, the *Present Tense (Přítomný čas) of imperfective verbs is categorized into Five Verb Conjugation Classes (pět slovesných tříd)*, classified according to the thematic vowel appearing in the 3rd person singular:
1. 1. třída (stem in -e): nést → nese, nést, vést, číst → čte - já nesu/nesu, ty neseš, on nese, my neseme, vy nesete, oni nesou. 2. 2. třída (stem in -ne): tisknout → tiskne, zamknout → zamkne - já tisknu, ty tiskneš, on tiskne, my tiskneme, vy tisknete, oni tisknou. 3. 3. třída (stem in -je): Verbs ending in -ovat, -át, -ýt (kupovat → kupuje, krýt → kryje, pít → pije) - já kupuju/kupuji, ty kupuješ, on kupuje, my kupujeme, vy kupujete, oni kupují/kupujou. 4. 4. třída (stem in -í): Verbs ending in -it, -et/-ět (mluvit → mluví, prosit → prosí, vidět → vidí) - já mluvím, ty mluvíš, on mluví, my mluvíme, vy mluvíte, oni mluví. 5. 5. třída (stem in -á): Verbs ending in -at (dělat → dělá, hledat → hledá, zpívat → zpívá) - já dělám, ty děláš, on dělá, my děláme, vy děláte, oni dělají.
Note that for perfective verbs, these present conjugational forms denote the absolute future tense.

My brother studies computer science and programs new applications every afternoon.
Čeští kolegové mluví plynule anglicky a německy při mezinárodních jednáních.
Czech colleagues speak English and German fluently during international negotiations.
Rádi děláme dlouhé procházky po historickém centru Prahy.
We like taking long walks around the historic center of Prague.
Petr píše důležitý článek pro prestižní vědecký časopis.
Petr is writing an important article for a prestigious scientific journal.
