Italian simple negation places non immediately before the verb (non parlo); when negative words (mai, niente, nessuno) follow the verb, double negation is mandatory (non so niente).
In Italian syntax, constructing negation follows precise structural rules depending on the position of negative words:
*1. Simple Sentence Negation (Non + Verbo): - Placing the negative particle non directly before the inflected verb (or auxiliary): - Io non parlo il tedesco. (I do not speak German). - Oggi non piove. (Today it is not raining). - When clitic pronouns are present, non precedes the pronoun cluster: Non lo so (I don't know it), Non mi piace* (I don't like it).
*2. Double Negation (Doppia negazione): Unlike standard English, Italian strictly requires double (or triple) negation when negative words follow the verb: - non ... mai (never): Non vado mai a teatro. (I never go to the theater). - non ... niente / nulla (nothing): Non ho capito niente. (I understood nothing / I didn't understand anything). - non ... nessuno (nobody / no one): Non conosco nessuno qui. (I know nobody here). - non ... più (no longer / no more): Non fumo più. (I no longer smoke). - non ... ancora (not yet): Non sono ancora pronti. (They are not ready yet). - non ... né ... né (neither ... nor): Non mangio né carne né pesce.*
3. Sentence-Initial Position Exception: If the negative word begins the sentence before the verb, non is omitted: Nessuno parla (Nobody speaks — NOT Nessuno non parla), Niente è facile (Nothing is easy).

Non ho mai visto un film così emozionante e profondo al cinema.
I have never seen such an emotional and profound film at the cinema.
Non conosco ancora nessuno in questa nuova università di lingue moderne.
I still do not know anyone in this new university of modern languages.
Nessuno vuole ammettere i propri errori durante le discussioni di gruppo.
Nobody wants to admit their own mistakes during group discussions.
Non abbiamo più tempo da perdere se vogliamo prendere il treno in orario.
We no longer have time to waste if we want to catch the train on time.
