PolishVerb Conjugation

Polish Verbs of Motion

Verbs of Motion (iść vs chodzić)

The distinction in Polish between unidirectional, single-trip motion (e.g., iść, jechać) and multi-directional or habitual motion (e.g., chodzić, jeździć).

Polish distinguishes between concrete, unidirectional movements (happening right now in one direction) and abstract, habitual, or multi-directional movements. For example, 'iść' means to go on foot to a destination right now (unidirectional), while 'chodzić' means to go habitually, pace back and forth, or walk around (frequentative). Similarly, 'jechać' is unidirectional by transport, while 'jeździć' is frequentative/habitual.
