Collective Numerals (Збірні числівники: двоє, троє, четверо)
Collective numerals (двоє, троє, четверо... десятеро, обидва) treat groups as a single whole and combine with masculine persons, young animals, and pluralia tantum nouns.
Collective Numerals (збірні числівники) in Ukrainian denote a specific quantity of objects perceived as an indivisible collective set. They exist for numbers from 2 to 20 and for 30: - двоє, троє, четверо, п'ятеро, шестеро, семеро, восьмеро, дев'ятеро, десятеро, plus the dual form обидва (both masc/neut) and обидві (both fem).
Strict Rules of Combination (Collective numerals CANNOT combine with all nouns!): 1. Masculine Persons: двоє студентів, троє братів, четверо друзів (fully standard and natural alongside два студенти). 2. Young Animals (Neuter in -а/-я): троє кошенят, четверо телят, п'ятеро цуценят. 3. Pluralia Tantum Nouns (Nouns having only plural forms): Mandatory when counting items that lack a singular: двоє дверей (two doors), троє ножиць (three pairs of scissors), четверо окулярів (four pairs of glasses), двоє суток / двоє саней. 4. Neuter Inanimate Nouns: двоє вікон, троє сіл.
Prohibition: Collective numerals are never used with adult female persons in standard Ukrainian (not 'двоє дівчат', say дві дівчини).

У нашої пухнастої кішки нещодавно народилося четверо кошенят.
Four kittens were recently born to our fluffy cat.
Для нової затишної квартири ми купили двоє зручних дверей.
For the new cozy apartment we bought two comfortable doors.
Обидва студенти успішно і блискуче склали складний іспит.
Both students passed the difficult exam successfully and brilliantly.
