Personal Pronouns and Subject Pro-Drop (Osobní zájmena)
Czech is a pro-drop language where subject pronouns (já, ty, on, ona, ono, my, vy, oni/ony/ona) are omitted unless used for contrast or emphasis.
In Czech, *Personal Pronouns (Osobní zájmena) represent speech participants and decline through all cases. Because Czech verb endings unambiguously express person and number, Czech is a prototypical Pro-Drop (Null-Subject) Language*:
1. The Pro-Drop Principle: Subject pronouns are naturally omitted in standard speech and writing: - Pracuju v kanceláři. (I work in an office — NOT Já pracuju v kanceláři, which sounds repetitive or boastful). - Kam jdeš? (Where are you going? — NOT Kam ty jdeš?).
When Subject Pronouns ARE Expressed: 1. Contrast & Antithesis: Já studuju medicínu, ale on studuje práva. (I study medicine, whereas HE studies law). 2. Emphatic Focus: Já to vím! (I know it myself!).
Paradigm of Nominative Subject Pronouns: - 1st sg.: já (I) - 2nd sg.: ty (you informal) - 3rd sg.: on (he masc. anim/inanim), ona (she fem), ono (it neuter) - 1st pl.: my (we) - 2nd pl.: vy (you plural and formal polite address Vy) - 3rd pl.: oni (they masc. animate), ony (they masc. inanimate & feminine), ona (they neuter).
Polite Form (Vykání): Formal singular address strictly requires the 2nd person plural pronoun Vy with plural verb forms (Pane Nováku, mohl byste přijít?).

Pracuji jako vědecký výzkumník na univerzitě v centru města.
I work as a scientific researcher at the university in the city center.
Já studuji moderní architekturu, zatímco můj bratr studuje medicínu.
I study modern architecture, whereas my brother studies medicine.
