Reciprocity (Vzájemnost: se, si, navzájem)
Reciprocal actions between multiple subjects are expressed via reflexive clitics se/si, often reinforced by adverbs navzájem or jeden druhého.
In Czech grammar, *Reciprocity (Vzájemnost / Reciprocita)* refers to semantic scenarios where two or more subjects perform identical mutual actions upon one another ('each other' / 'one another').
Key Structural Patterns: 1. Accusative Reciprocity with 'se': When the reciprocal action targets a direct object, the reflexive particle se is used: - Známe se už mnoho let. (We have known each other for many years). - Petr a Pavel se pozdravili. (Petr and Pavel greeted each other). - Milují se. (They love each other). 2. Dative Reciprocity with 'si': When the reciprocal action targets an indirect object / recipient, si is used: - Pomáháme si při studiu. (We help each other during studies). - Píšeme si každý týden. (We write to each other every week). - Důvěřují si. (They trust each other). 3. Emphatic Reinforcement with 'navzájem' and 'jeden druhého': To resolve potential ambiguity between purely reflexive ('to oneself') and reciprocal ('to each other') meanings, Czech adds the adverb navzájem (mutually) or inflected pronoun phrase jeden druhého (one another): - Oni se navzájem velmi respektují. (They respect each other mutually). - Pomáhají jeden druhému. (They help one another).
