The habitual / broad present suffix -(y)A / -й expresses timeless truths, routine habits, and predictable future actions.
The *Habitual / Broad Present-Future Tense (Ауыспалы осы-келер шақ) in Kazakh is formed using the converb suffix -а / -е (after consonant roots) and -й* (after vowel roots), followed by Type 1 personal endings. It corresponds both to the English Simple Present (for habitual actions and general truths) and to predictable near-future intentions.
Conjugation Paradigm: - 1st sg. (мен): бар-а-мын (I go / I will go), кел-е-мін (I come), оқы-й-мын (I study) - 2nd sg. informal (сен): бар-а-сың, кел-е-сің, оқы-й-сың - 2nd sg. polite (сіз): бар-а-сыз, кел-е-сіз, оқы-й-сыз - 3rd sg. (ол): бар-а-ды, кел-е-ді, оқы-й-ды - 1st pl. (біз): бар-а-мыз, кел-е-міз, оқы-й-мыз - 2nd pl. informal (сендер): бар-а-сыңдар, кел-е-сіңдер - 2nd pl. polite (сіздер): бар-а-сыздар, кел-е-сіздер - 3rd pl. (олар): бар-а-ды / бар-а-ды-лар.
Negation: Formed with -ма/-ме + -й + personal endings: бар-ма-й-мын (I do not go / will not go), кел-ме-й-ді (he does not come), біл-ме-й-міз (we do not know). Contrast with the continuous tense: жазып жатырмын (I am writing right now) vs. жазамын (I write regularly / I will write).
