Imperative Mood Formation in Slovak (Rozkazovací spôsob)

In Slovak grammar, the *Imperative Mood (Rozkazovací spôsob)* expresses commands, requests, invitations, and prohibitions. It exists natively for three grammatical persons:

1. Basic Imperative Forms: Derived from the present tense 3rd person plural stem by removing -ú / -ia / -ajú: - *2nd person singular (ty): - Endings: -aj (čítať → čítaj!), -ø zero ending with soft stem (robiť → rob!, písať → píš!), or -i after consonant clusters (počuť → počuj!, spať → spi!, brať → ber!). - 1st person plural (my) (Let us...): - Add ending -me: čítajme! (let's read), píšme! (let's write), robme! (let's do/make), poďme! (let's go). - 2nd person plural & Polite Address (vy / Vy): - Add ending -te: čítajte! (read!), píšte! (write!), robte! (do!), poďte!* (come!).

2. Irregular Imperatives: - byť (to be) → buď! (sg.), buďme! (1st pl.), buďte! (2nd pl./formal) - ísť (to go) → poď!, poďme!, poďte! - jesť (to eat) → jedz!, jedzme!, jedzte! - vedieť (to know) → vedz!, vedzte!.

3. Third-Person Wishes with 'Nech': To express requests or wishes directed at a 3rd person, Slovak uses the particle nech + present indicative: - Nech sa páči! (Here you go! / Please!), Nech vstúpi. (Let him enter).

Learner Mistake: Omitting softening or stem adjustments in common imperatives (byť imperative is buď/buďte, not bývaj).
