Possessive Pronouns (moj, tvoj, njegov, njen, naš, vaš, njihov) in Serbian

In Serbian grammar, *Possessive Pronouns (Prisvojne zamenice) indicate possession and ownership. Unlike invariant English possessive determiners, Serbian possessive pronouns function syntactically like adjectives, agreeing in gender, number, and case with the possessed noun* (not the owner):

1. Full Paradigm of Possessive Pronouns: - 1st sg. (My): moj (masc.), moja (fem.), moje (neuter); Plural: moji, moje, moja - 2nd sg. (Your informal): tvoj, tvoja, tvoje; Plural: tvoji, tvoje, tvoja - 3rd sg. Masc./Neuter (His/Its): njegov, njegova, njegovo; Plural: njegovi, njegove, njegova - 3rd sg. Fem. (Her): njen (or njezin), njena, njeno; Plural: njeni, njene, njena - 1st pl. 2. Declension: Possessive pronouns decline like soft/hard adjectives across all 7 cases (mojeg/mog, mojem/mom, mojom; našeg, našem, našim).

Important Distinction: When the possessor is the subject of the clause, Serbian requires the reflexive possessive svoj instead of moj/tvoj/njegov (Petar voli svoju ženu = Peter loves his own wife vs. njegovu ženu = someone else's wife!).
