Synthetic Imperfective Future (Простий синтетичний майбутній час: робитиму)
Ukrainian uniquely forms an imperfective synthetic future by attaching personal endings (-му, -меш, -ме, -мемо, -мете, -муть) directly to the infinitive (робитиму = I will do).
A distinctive grammatical structure of the Ukrainian language (with no modern equivalent in Russian) is the Synthetic Imperfective Future Tense (проста синтетична форма майбутнього часу). It originated historically from the merger of the full infinitive with the ancient auxiliary verb яти (мати: писати йму → писатиму).
It is formed by attaching fused personal endings directly to the full imperfective infinitive: - я: -му (робитиму*, писатиму, житиму = I will do/write/live) - ти: -меш (робитимеш, писатимеш) - він / вона / воно: -ме (робитиме, писатиме) - ми: -мемо / -мем (робитимемо, писатимемо) - ви: -мете (робитимете, писатимете) - вони: -муть (робитимуть, писатимуть*)
Usage and Register: Both я писатиму and я буду писати express the exact same aspectual and temporal meaning (imperfective future). However, the synthetic form (писатиму) carries a distinctly expressive, lyrical, and authentically Ukrainian stylistic flair, frequently appearing in literature, journalism, and educated speech. Russian speakers often neglect this form because Russian possesses only the compound буду писать construction.
