Time Expressions and Temporal Adverbs
Temporal adverbs and expressions answer қашан? (when?) and specify points of time: бүгін (today), кеше (yesterday), ертең (tomorrow), қазір (now).
In Kazakh, *Time Expressions and Temporal Adverbs (Мезгіл үстеулері) indicate the temporal framework within which an action unfolds, answering the question Қашан? (When?) and Қай кезде?* (At what time?).
Core Temporal Lexicon: 1. Deictic Days: бүгін (today), кеше (yesterday), ертең (tomorrow), арғы күні (the day after tomorrow), алдыңғы күні (the day before yesterday). 2. Deictic Years: биыл (this year), былтыр (last year), бүрсігүні (in two days), келесі жылы (next year). 3. Parts of the Day: таңертең (in the morning), түсте / түскілікте (at noon), кешке / кешкілікте (in the evening), түнде (at night), сәскеде (mid-morning). 4. Aspectual Time Adverbs: қазір (now / right now), жаңа (just now), әлі / әлі күнге дейін (still / yet), енді (from now on / now), баяғыда (a long time ago), күнде / күн сайын (every day), үнемі / әрдайым (always, continuously), кейде (sometimes).
Word Order Position: In Kazakh clause structure, temporal adverbs naturally appear early in the sentence, immediately following the subject (Балалар бүгін таңертең мектепке барды) or at the very beginning of the clause for scene-setting (Кеше кешке біз киноға бардық).
