Adverbs of Time, Place, and Manner
Adverbs specify time (acum, ieri, mâine), location (aici, acolo, aproape), and manner, where masculine singular adjectives routinely serve directly as adverbs (vorbește frumos).
In Romanian, *Adverbs (adverbele)* modify verbs, adjectives, or entire clauses without undergoing nominal inflection:
*1. Temporal Adverbs (Adverbe de timp): - acum (now), ieri (yesterday), azi / astăzi (today), mâine (tomorrow), alaltăieri (the day before yesterday), poimâine (the day after tomorrow), întotdeauna / mereu (always), niciodată (never), uneori / câteodată (sometimes), curând (soon), deja (already), încă* (still / yet).
*2. Spatial Adverbs (Adverbe de loc): - aici (here), acolo (there), aproape (near / close), departe (far), sus (up / upstairs), jos (down / downstairs), înăuntru (inside), afară (outside), înainte (forward / in front), înapoi* (backward / behind).
*3. Adverbs of Manner & Adjectival Zero-Derivation (Adverbe de mod): Unlike French (-ment) or Spanish (-mente), Romanian does not use an adverbial suffix. Instead, the masculine singular form of any qualitative adjective directly functions as an adverb of manner: - El scrie frumos (He writes beautifully — identical to masculine frumos). - Ea vorbește clar (She speaks clearly — identical to masculine clar). - Trenul merge repede* (The train travels fast).
Failing to keep the adverb in its uninflected masculine form when modifying a feminine subject (e.g. erroneously saying Ea scrie frumoasă instead of Ea scrie frumos) is a common mistake.

Acum locuim foarte aproape de universitate și mergem pe jos în fiecare zi.
Now we live very close to the university and walk on foot every day.
Profesorul vorbește întotdeauna foarte clar și explică totul cu răbdare.
The professor always speaks very clearly and explains everything with patience.
Ieri am rămas înăuntru din cauza furtunii puternice de afară.
Yesterday we stayed inside because of the strong storm outside.
Trenul rapid a sosit deja în gara centrală din capitală.
The fast train has already arrived at the central station in the capital.
