Futur II (Exact Conditional Future) in Serbian

In Serbian grammar, *Futur II (Predbuduće vreme / Futur egzaktni) is a specialized compound verbal tense used strictly in subordinate clauses introduced by conjunctions of condition (ako, ukoliko = if), time (kad, čim, dok* = when, as soon as, while), and intent.

1. Structural Formula: Perfective Present of BITI (budem, budeš, bude, budemo, budete, budu) + Past Participle (-l)

Conjugation of 'raditi' (to work): - 1st sg.: ja budem radio (masc.) / radila (fem.) - 2nd sg.: ti budeš radio / radila* - 3rd sg.: on bude radio / ona bude radila / ono bude radilo - 1st pl.: mi budemo radili / radile - 2nd pl.: vi budete radili / radile - 3rd pl.: oni budu radili / one budu radile / ona budu radila*.

2. Syntactic Function and Relative Time: Futur II denotes an action that will take place in the future prior to, or simultaneously with, another future action expressed by Futur I in the main clause: - Ako budeš učio, položićeš ispit. (If you study [prior condition], you will pass the exam). - Čim budemo završili posao, ići ćemo kući. (As soon as we finish work, we will go home). - Dok budem boravio u Beogradu, posetiću sve muzeje. (While I am staying in Belgrade, I will visit all museums).

Crucial Syntax Rule: Futur II can never stand as the predicate of an independent main sentence (Ja budem radio by itself is strictly ungrammatical!).
